The Lewis and Clark Genealogical Society to Host Genealogy 101 Classes at the Library

January 24, 2023 (Helena, MT)—Are you interested in tracing your family history? Want to know more about your family’s history? Curious what 23andMe and other DNA kits mean for genealogy research? Then join the Lewis and Clark Genealogical Society, in conjunction with the Lewis & Clark Library, for Genealogy 101, a 4-week series of classes on genealogy research tips, tools, and techniques. 

 

Genealogy 101 will be held each Saturday of February from 1-3PM in the Large Community Room. Topics will include using Ancestry.com, Newsbank, FamilySearch.org and other newspaper websites; using DNA in genealogy research; and much more. Class one of four in our series introducing genealogy and research tools. 

Introduction to the tools and techniques of genealogical research. Forms, trees, websites, tips and tricks. Registration encouraged but drop-ins are welcome. One on one consulting can be scheduled afterwards.

Genealogy 101: Ancestry and Newsbank

Saturday, February 11 from 1-3 PM in the Large Community Room. 

Class two of four in our series introducing genealogy and research tools. Ancestry.com is one of the largest repositories of genealogical data. In this class we will review how to utilize this site both using the Lewis & Clark Library Edition or a home version. We will also explore Newsbank, a database of newspapers available through the Lewis & Clark Library.

Genealogy 101: Using FamilySearch.org & Other Newspaper Websites

Saturday, February 18 from 1-3 PM in the Large Community Room. 

Class three of four in our series introducing genealogy and research tools. 

FamilySearch.org is a free website with a large repository of genealogical data. In this class we will review how to utilize this site. We will also look at exploring online newspapers at Chronicling America, Newspapers.com, Montana Newspapers and Montana Small Town Newspapers.
