[ARCHIVED] March Library Card Madness

madhatterforposter1.jpg

It’s March Madness @ Your Lewis & Clark Library…March Library Card Madness that is! Who issues more cards than visa; has more children enrolled in summer programs than little league; has more visitors each week than all museums and zoos combined; and has more outlets than McDonalds? Libraries of course! But did you know that the smallest wireless device you have that gives you access to thousands of books and movies...is your library card! During March Library Card Madness month, stop by any of the branches of your Lewis and Clark Library and sign up for your free library card.

To help us celebrate March Library Card Madness, your local Montana Radio Company morning personalities will be hosting story time at the main branch of the Library on March 4th & 5th. You’ll get a chance to meet Scott Hirschi, from The Mighty-Mo Morning show and Keith & Whitney from the Morning Wake Up Call on KMTX.

Join us on the Storysteps at 10:30AM or 1:30PM on Wednesday or at 10:30AM on Thursday for this exciting treat and while you’re at the Library, make sure your Library Card is current! From puppets to a fabulous collection of books and DVDs, there is something for every young reader in the Library’s collection, all you need is a library card!

But did you know you can check out more than just books with your library card?

From laptop check-out to a myriad of online databases, including HomeworkMT, there’s an online world at your fingertips. To help our young adults learn to navigate these valuable resources we are hosting Teen Tech Week, March 9-11.

“Teen Tech Week is an opportunity for us to showcase all of the great digital resources and services that are available to help teens succeed in school and prepare for college and 21st century careers,” explains Teen Services Librarian Heather Dickerson.
Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to Explore Minecraft Make-Off on March 9th, take the Oregon Trail Challenge on March 10th and learn to how to create super cool with our new 3D printer on March 11th. All classes are from 5-630PM and are free but registration is required by calling 406447-1690 ext. 5.
Your Library is more than just books, it’s programs and events too! Join us for “Starting Your Own Seeds for Spring Planting” on Monday, March 23 at 6 PM in the Large Meeting Room

Learn how to start seeds for spring planting with Brent Sarchet from the Extension Office. This program is free and open to the public and offered by both your Lewis & Clark Library and the MSU Extension Office here in Helena.

MSU Extension improves the lives of Montana citizens by providing unbiased research-based education and information that integrates learning, discovery and engagement to strengthen the social, economic and environmental well-being of individuals, families, and communities.

Kids grades K thru 5th grade, we will top off the Madness with a Mad Hatter Tea Party on April 1st from 3-5pm. Wear your best zany hat and bring your best joke and win prizes. The crew from the Mighty-Mo will be on hand to judge this foolishly fun festivity so don’t miss out!

Signing up for a Library Card is easy. Library cards are free for residents of Lewis & Clark. Not a resident of Lewis & Clark County, not to worry, the Library has plenty of options available for those who live outside the County or who are temporary residents. Simply stop by any of our Branches or the Bookmobile and ask our friendly Staff for more information on how to sign up for a Library Card. Everyone who signs up for a library card during March Library Card Madness gets their name entered into the drawing for a fabulous Family Fun Pack!

For more information on how to sign up for a Library Card, log onto www.lclibrary.org and under “Library Information” select “Library Cards” and remember, there’s always something going on at your Lewis & Clark Library.
