Your Lewis & Clark Library is Offering A Free ACT Study Group
January 3, 2019 (Helena, MT)—Taking the ACT Exam is mandatory, being afraid or nervous about it is not! To help combat the fear of the unknown and to help Helena area teens prepare for the ACT Exam, Your Lewis & Clark Library is pleased to announce the addition of a free ACT Study Group.
The ACT Study Group “is a great way to prepare for this daunting standardized test with some tried-and-true "butt-in-chair" time at Lewis & Clark Library,” explains Teen Services Librarian Heather Dickerson. During each study session, the group will cover a different section of the ACT plus go over tips and tricks for reducing your anxiety and stress on test day.
In addition to going over study techniques and stress buster tips, the ACT Study Group will also take a full practice test. “The more you see the exam, the less anxious you will be about taking the exam,” explained Dickerson. The ACT Study Group is for students in high school who wish to get a jump on this standardized test.
Dickerson explains that the study group “will use library resources, free online tools, and access the official Peterson’s ACT Prep Guide using Lewis & Clark Library’s Education and Test Prep database.” The study group will discuss test strategies, complete sample questions, and experience a full practice test. Dickerson explains that “this is a unique and free opportunity for high school students to gear up for the ACT in a supportive environment.”
Participants should bring writing materials, a calculator, and/or a laptop computer. The Library will have a small number of computers for participants to use, but Dickerson encourages participants to bring their own laptops if possible. Students should register at the Lewis & Clark Library by calling the Information Desk at 447.1690.
Full Test Sessions
Students will complete the full ACT test, minus the writing section. We'll adhere to the time limits for each section. Including breaks, the full test takes 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete. Getting experience with what the test feels like and practicing time management is a great way to be successful on the actual test day. At the end of the session, students will determine their score and walk away knowing what sections need work. Dates:
Sunday, January 20 from 1-4:30 in the Large Meeting Room
Sunday, February 17 from 1-4:30 in the Large Meeting Room
Sunday, March 17 from 1-4:30 in the Large Meeting Room
