Early Literacy Kits are designed for young children and the adults who support them. Each kit focuses on a child-friendly theme and includes carefully selected books, toys, and activities, along with simple guidance for using the materials together. The kits support learning through play while building the five key early literacy skills—Talk, Sing, Read, Write, and Play—in ways that feel natural and fun for families. Some materials may pose a choking hazard and are not recommended for children under age three without close adult supervision.

Circulation Policy:

  • Loan period: Early Literacy Kits may be borrowed for 2 weeks and cannot be renewed.
  • Checkout: Kits are secured with locks and must be checked out at the front desk so staff can remove the lock.
  • Holds: You can place a hold through the catalog or browse available kits below.
  • Returns: Please return kits directly to the front desk at any Lewis & Clark Library location or bookmobile stop. Do not place kits in book drops — they will not fit and may be damaged.
  • Borrowers are responsible for the cost of any lost or damaged kits or missing pieces.
